In 1980, Vivien I. Ellis incorporated an electrical business in Atlanta, Georgia. For 30 years, we have experienced all aspects of electrical and general contracting. MBEC-Atlanta, Inc. was incorporated as Minority Business Electrical Contractor in Atlanta, Georgia in November of 1980.
While MBEC originally contracted retail businesses, (Shopping centers, strip malls, etc.) Today, MBEC focus and scope has grown to an international level to include contracting with local and federal government entities and fortune 1000 companies. In addition, MBEC continues to service contracts with higher education institutions with particular focus on the technology and infrastructure needs of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, “HBCU’s”. MBEC is known throughout Atlanta for its outstanding work done at institutions including Morehouse, Clark Atlanta University, Spellman, Fort-Valley, etc. and many others around the nation.
Business flourished in 1990′s, with the help of the Olympics Atlanta and a flourishing economy. MBEC employees went from 20 to 126 personnel. This extreme growth and exceptional work done at the Olympics fostered greater opportunitiesand relationships with some of Atlanta’s major Construction companies with hosts such as H.J. Russell, CD Moody, Bradfield & Gorrie, Cooper and Turner Construction, just to name a few. Working with these contractors allowed MBEC to work over the entire Southeast Region.
MBEC moved from its original location at 1033 Jefferson Street to 675 Metropolitan Pkwy. In 2009, MBEC had made its most important moved to its newly renovated headquarters in the west end, where the office is located today.
MBEC developed its niche beyond General & Electrical Contracting, to include Data networking, telecommunications, surveillance systems as well as sophisticated security and fire alarms.
We are certified by Atlanta Public Schools, City of Atlanta, Fulton County, DeKalb County and the State of Georgia. We hold Licenses for Commercial General Contracting and Low-High Voltage-Unrestricted. MBEC has expanded its Contracting experience internationally.
